Ok, here we go:
decided to take a trip down memory lane and test my first DAW Magix Music Maker 2005 deluxe.
And in some parts, it's still an amazing beast (especially some of their acid bass and breakbeat plugins). And then I wondered: how is the state of it nowadays?
Truth be told, it's wonky.
First of all the good: it's stable and some of the older modules are amazing (like bit machine).
But overall the new GUI is trash, it's flat has, some strange latency response, and many options are missing.
There are several things missing (at least at first sight):
-input quantization
-the ability to have a metronome 2 bars before recording
-all instruments being installed (you have to install them via their store)
-A MIDI editor that focuses automatically on the clip you opened to edit

There are also numerous other things like phasing issues on reverbs, filters, delays, no ducking functions, and aliasing in filters and compressors (On some the threshold works the opposite on some of them it doesn't...).
Some of their FX don't have an input and output gain for their saturation. In some of them you have to scroll through presets to unlock and access all controls....
And editing is strangely bloated while changing the grid size doesn't work cohesively.
The sounds range from okish to amazing, only downside some are massively too loud.
The pattern module is fun with its pattern library but until now I have found no option to enable swing or other subdivisions that are 16ths.
The last straw that breaks it, is the necessity of having to log in every time you start it up...
Magix - What went wrong and am I the only one noticing it?
PS Right now I use a mix of Logic, Reaper, and Ableton to make various kinds of music
