I am 100% sure that I could NOT pick the sound out in a blind test but I understand what they're saying.I've been reading about the "Arturia sound" for years from forum posters, but I'm skeptical anyone could reliably pick it out in a blind test.Pigments has a quite particular sound to it. It's uniquely middle of the road sounding.. meaning it can be quite boring. Even distorted and "extreme" sound output still has this finger print on them. Thus if you can not work around this with external effects or clever programming, it is indeed something that could make you dislike the synth.
I only own three Arturia synths but I've demoed most of the rest and there is "something" about their core sound.
Now I'm not even going to try to define what that "something" is as it most likely can't be defined or perhaps even measured. Maybe it's some kind of subtle Psycho-acoustic effect, I really don't know.
It's not an unpleasant core sound but there does seem to be a common core sound. Nothing that would keep me from buying more Arturia synths (or inspire me to do so) but again I can relate to what they're saying.
