Samplers, Sampling & Sample Libraries • Spitfire Abbey Road Flutes a2 and Clarinets a2

Spitfire flutes a2 and clarinets a2 from the Abbey Road series have both been released, and they are pretty pricey.

But, they sound really good. Nicely balanced up and down the range and at all dynamic levels. Even when played together there is a lot of consistency in the shorts lengths. And the trills and flutter tongue are very nice.

That said, you need to dial up the legato offset to 150ms or 100ms in order to get the snappiest response times. (Default is 200ms.) And of course, only a2... no solo yet. And the clarinets have vibrato only, in the legato. But then again, the Pro version has three attack types going into three independent sustain dynamic layers in the legatos. Longs use the mod wheel only, no velocity, and do allow no vibrato. I found at least one “bug” with the clarinets reverb.

Here is a lengthy playthrough of all the articulations for both with the Mix 1. Hope this helps someone make a decision if it’s on a wish list or, if you already own it this might help inspire some ways to take full advantage of it. Cheers!
